Bond Rally
The post-auction bullish run-on bonds has continued way into the week owing to a much-improved outlook on the economy. Notable global players affirm a positive view on Zambia Sovereign debt. In their note to clients Morgan Stanley recommended switching out of other regional (dollar) assets into equivalent Zambia assets. They see “upside potential for Zambia’s dollar-dominated bonds due to positive outlook for the country’s copper exports and improving fiscal balances”.
ZMW denominated bonds recorded stellar performance with the 10-year paper trading at 23.50% while the 15-year paper traded at 25%. The massive rally comes shortly after last week’s auction where the two long-dated papers cleared at 25.75% and 27.75% respectively. Offers on the 15-year paper are now below 25%.
